Ecological Footprint

The Living Planet Report ranked the UAE (United Arab Emirates) as having the highest per capita Ecological Footprint in the world. In response, an initiative was launched to better understand the Ecological Footprint and monitor consumption patterns in the country.

  1. Footprint: it’s a measurement of everything we consume and use, including the energy to power our homes. It’s our total impact on planet Earth.

    57%: Households alone are responsible for 57% of the UAE’s footprint.


    4.5: If everyone in the planet lived and consumed the way they do we would need 4.5 planets Earth and we’re depleting its resources at an alarming rate.

    Imported products: it’s hard to see the consequences in far-off lands. Ex: imported beef results in a cascade of environmental costs and can lead to an increase in natural disasters


    Natural disasters: increase in natural disasters: sea level rise, increase of storms, heatwaves and droughts


    Adopting new habits: consume fewer imported products, replace them with more sustainable ones, where possible use public transport and try to reduce your waste, be wise about what you buy and reduce your ecological footprint.
