II. Then listen to Andy telling Luke about something that happened to him and his friend Gareth and answer the questions. Check your answers in "comments".

 Glossary:

- To knock something off: to hit something so that it gets removed.
- A helmet: a type of hard hat that protects the head.
- Blimey (slang): used to show surprise or anger.
- To be charged with: to be formally accused of a crime.
- A verbal caution: a warning given by the police to someone who's committed a crime that is not too serious.
- Contrite: very sorry for something bad that you have done.
- Apologetic: showing that you're sorry for something bad that you've done or for causing a problem.
- Indignant: showing anger and surprise because you think you've been treated unfairly
- To mouth off: to talk or complain loudly about something.
- A slap on the wrist: a warning or small punishment.

  1. 1. Andy and his friend Gareth were at university, in their second year. It was January or February and it was really cold. The ground was covered with snow.
    2. It was in Lancaster, in the North of England, near the Lake District.
    3. Andy and his friend got arrested.
    4. They were walking back and they were in a good mood because they'd had a few drinks.
    5. They thought it would be funny to start throwing snowballs at the local police station.
    6. They came out and told them to stop and go home. ('Why don't you just grow up and go home?')
    7. Gareth threw a ball at Andy but he missed him and hit the policeman, knocking his hat off.
    8. They started laughing hysterically and running away.
    9. Because they were laughing so much and falling over in the snow.
    10. No, they weren't. They were given a verbal caution.
    11. Andy really regretted it and was very contrite, quiet and apologetic.
    12. Gareth got really indignant and angry.
    13. It was really small, down in the corner and really cold.
    14. Andy was given a full cooked breakfast, so he was feeling quite happy. But Gareth didn't get anything. They released them with a slap on the wrist and told them not to do it again.
    15. It was one of the strangest things in his life.
